Lake Nona Newsletter January 2006 - Celebrating A Year at Lake Nona

THE NEW YEAR HAS BEGUN AT LAKE NONA, and with it comes our busiest time of year. The volume of play on the golf course will remain steady from now through the end of April. Securing tee times for you and your guests as early as possible is recommended, and we ask that you keep an eye on our monthly calendars to become familiar with any course closing days for maintenance and/or Club events. Morning frost delays at this time of year will occur, and checking in with the Golf Professional Shop upon your arrival to the Club is strongly encouraged. We ask our private cart owners to stay only on cart paths and roadways when driving to the Club on the chilliest of mornings to avoid damaging the golf course turf. With the arrival of colder weather, the areas of the golf course that were not overseeded become very apparent. The greens will take on a brownish tinge as the TifEagle bermudagrass goes dormant until the temperatures increase. This is a temporary condition, and the greens are in no way harmed by this occurrence. We do ask for your assistance in diligently repairing ball marks on the greens, as this will keep the putting surfaces smooth and true until the marks can heal. The rough will begin to thin out as the winter progresses. We intentionally grow the rough longer and thicker in the Fall to offer it some protection for the winter months. Please fill your divots in the rough as well is in the fairways with the sand provided on the carts. Sand refills are available in the green rack between #9 green and #10 tee or with the golf staff in the cart barn area. Taking the extra time to fix a couple of ball marks and fill a few divots goes a long way in keeping the course in top condition for everyone to enjoy.
